Don’t Leave Me Now Play Readings and Radio Appearance

We have some updates on Brian Daniels’ amazing play Don’t Leave Me Now which explores experiences of early-onset dementia. There are two more readings of the play taking place over the next two months, and we really recommend you go to one of them if you can. The play is wonderful and thought-provoking and is genuinely not too upsetting, even if you have personal experience with dementia.

One of the readings is taking place in Leeds and the other on the Isle of White. The reading in Leeds coincides with BBC Radio Leeds week focusing on dementia and Brian will be guest interviewee on a live broadcast on 16 October.

Inspired by two real stories, Brian Daniels’ new play DON’T LEAVE ME NOW explores the impact of early onset dementia on two very different families.

Professor Rachael Dixey, Professor of Health at Leeds Metropolitan University nursed her partner through dementia for a decade. Cindy Toulman whose husband Chris has been a patient at Thistle Hill Care Home in Knaresborough, has visited him every day for the last ten years of his life. The play was inspired by these two stories and Brian has woven the strands to create a documentary style piece of the effects of living with dementia on the families and the patients.

The play completed a week of workshops at the prestigious West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds (Brian’s home town) and has had a dozen further rehearsed readings in Leeds, London, Croydon and Harrogate and Portsmouth. The IOW readings are the inspiration of Lady s g a long term IOW resident who is working tirelessly to raise awareness of dementia and the charity Dementia UK which provides specialist nurses known as Admiral nurses. Don’t Leave Me Now is endorsed by Dementia UK and ticket proceeds will be donated to the charity.
